In a moving ceremony Gan Dagan was officially inaugurated, capping a two year process of planning and construction. The memorial garden overlooks Mearas HaMachpela and honors the memory of Major Dagan Vertman, IY”H, who was killed during the 2005 operation in Gaza. Dagan’s parents, Debbie and Eli, were on hand, as well as many residents and soldiers. Also in attendance were members of the Werdiger family from Melbourne Australia whose Werled foundation sponsored the project. Dagan was well-known and respected in Hebron by both soldiers and residents from his period of outstanding service as Hebron’s commander. He was also a childhood friend of Rabbi Danny’s brother. The beautiful, inviting garden is in full use by the residents and children of Hebron together with the city’s many daily tourists as well as the soldiers from the nearby base.
