Spectacular Melave Malke for Russian Shluchim in Hevron

August 01, 2009

Every year Chabad Shluchim from the Former Soviet Union hold their annual convention in Eretz Yisroel. This year they held a spectacular Melave Malka at Maaras HaMachpela in Hevron.

The Maara was kept open longer than usual to allow the Shluchim to visit and tour the entire site, including areas that are off limits to Jews (except for ten specific days during the year.)

One of the army officers serving in the Hevron area, Commander Leon, is from Russia. He addressed the Melave Malka in their native language. His message was one of thanks and appreciation to Chabad of Hevron for their work with the soldiers stationed in and around Hevron.

Honored guests included Rabbi Berel Lazar and Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky. Local Hevron dignitaries included community representative Baruch Marzel and Hevron pioneer and artist, Boruch Nachshon. There was a first class barbeque and live music by local musicians.

“They say that Hevron is the gateway to heaven,” said Rabbi Danny Cohen. “At this event with so many Shluchim for the former Soviet Union - Shluchim who are familiar with Mesirus Nefesh, and at the same time are record breaking community leaders – it was like you could see the gates of heaven opening.”

it hard to imagine Shlichus in Russia. and then for these Shluchim to come to Hevron and re-charge their spiritual batteries. B''H for Chabad of Hevron.
